But I don&#8217;t think they&#8217;re going to keep it\u2026\u2019\u201d The Bryan Adams track that started life as a Blue \u00d6yster Cult song"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"article-body\">\n<p>Keith Scott has reflected on his enduring career as the foil to \u201cprolific songwriter\u201d Bryan Adams, and how one of their most beloved hits wasn\u2019t originally meant for them.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t simply a case of Adams, Scott, and co. <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guitarworld.com\/lessons\/sweep-picking-how-to-get-started\" data-before-rewrite-redirect=\"https:\/\/www.guitarworld.com\/lessons\/big-strokes-beginners-guide-sweepingg\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.guitarworld.com\/lessons\/sweep-picking-how-to-get-started\">sweeping<\/a> up sloppy seconds, though, as the guitarist tells Vertex Effects that he begged the British\/Canadian singer-songwriter, \u201cplease don\u2019t give that away!\u201d<\/p>\n<aside data-block-type=\"embed\" data-render-type=\"fte\" data-skip=\"dealsy\" data-widget-type=\"seasonal\" class=\"hawk-base\" \/>\n<p>Next to Adams&#8217; biggest tracks, the wedding party classic <em>Summer of &#8217;69 <\/em>and heartthrob ballad <em>Heaven<\/em>,<em> Run To You<\/em> is another setlist staple, and it&#8217;s a song that came from Adams&#8217; prolific songwriting partnership with Jim Vallance.<\/p>\n<aside data-component-name=\"Recirculation:ArticleRiver\" data-nosnippet=\"\" class=\"clear-both pt-3 pb-4 mb-4 border-solid border-y border-neutral-300\"><span class=\"font-article-heading block pb-3 !text-base font-bold uppercase sm:text-sm text-[#333]\">You may like<\/span><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s no way to know what&#8217;s a hit,\u201d he says. \u201cThe business is always changing\u2026 we wanted to be a rock band with pop songs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Bryan&#8217;s case, he was a prolific songwriter, and he was writing consistently for all other artists. I think this was a real bonus and a benefit, because there was always new material coming one way or another, and some of the rejections would end up on our records.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just some of the songs Adams wrote for other artists include <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guitarworld.com\/tag\/kiss\" data-auto-tag-linker=\"true\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.guitarworld.com\/tag\/kiss\">Kiss<\/a>\u2019 <em>Rock and Roll Hell<\/em> (1982), <em>M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce&#8217;s<\/em> Glitter (1997), and Ted Nugent&#8217;s <em>Draw The Line<\/em> (1984). But not every song was snapped up by its intended target.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Run To You<\/em> was penned for Blue \u00d6yster Cult at the time, which they decided not to use,\u201d Scott explains. \u201cI remember the phone call. He said, \u2018Jim, I just wrote this thing. It was for Blue \u00d6yster Cult. But I don&#8217;t think they&#8217;re going to keep it.
