Abby Travis describes herself as a \u201cpinch-hitter of bassists\u201d. That tracks, considering she\u2019s filled four-stringed space for Beck, Elastica, The Bangles and The Go-Go\u2019s when they were in need. She also has her solo work, released under the name Sumo Princess.<\/p>\n

But she\u2019s aware that, some of the time, her efforts go under the radar. \u201cThere are people who listen to music and don\u2019t even know what the bass<\/a> sounds like,\u201d she tells Bass Player<\/em>. \u201cBut they move their heads or their asses! The bass is what makes us groove to the music. It\u2019s a physical thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
