What is it?<\/span><\/h3>\n

It takes a brave soul to take on Boss<\/a> in the modeling amp arms race, and an even braver one to do so explicitly. After all, the Japanese firm\u2019s Katana range<\/a> \u2013 now on its third iteration, following a mass overhaul last year \u2013 is undoubtedly the market\u2019s biggest player, and has comfortably cemented itself as the amp to beat in the near-decade since its release.<\/p>\n

Blackstar<\/a>, however, is one of those very brave souls, and clearly isn\u2019t afraid of the Katana, having launched the ID:X \u2013 a modeling amp that its maker admirably and obviously states has been designed to go \u201chead-to-head\u201d with the market leader.<\/p>\n

Dubbed \u201ca bold step forward in modern amp design\u201d, the ID:X<\/a> \u2013 available in 50 and 100 watt iterations \u2013 is Blackstar\u2019s stake for conquering the modeling amp space, building on the beloved Blackstar ID <\/a>range and elevating it to all-new heights thanks to newly engineered tech and some proprietary features.<\/p>\n

For a cursory overview, these include Blackstar\u2019s CabRig functionality, a companion Architect app, the firm\u2019s Infinite Shape Feature (ISF) control, tube response options, wattage-scaling, loads of presets, expansive connectivity and its new \u2018In The Room\u2019 tech.<\/p>\n
